Today, i.e. on 5th of August we started this blog and didn't think that we will be able to sustain it for a year. Since we had, and you have been patient enough to read the crap all the way along... thank you very much for that. We wish that you spent/waste your time on this blog in future also.

Below is the first strip of what we would like to call as Season-2 (that sounds kinda cool) of Hoodda.

SALSA AND SAARANG

Saarang- the annual cultural fest of IIT Madras- is the harbinger of change, hope and masti in the Insti.

I will start with what happens just before Saarang. The sale of deodorants, shampoo and soap increases on the local Gurunath shop. Mannerisms becomes rampant in the campus. 3/4ths and shorts are less common among Insti guys. Shopping for clothes and accessories is in full throttle as the Insti junta takes full advantage of the end of the season sale.

On the Saarang days bathrooms are packed like anything. Even the ones who have almost forgot the word ‘bath’ haggle for their turn in their impatient chaddis. The hostels’ zone become a live olfactory Shoppe as the newly bought spirits and perfumes are applied in generous quantities. As per a survey, the amount of deo and perfume that is consumed in the Insti during Saarang far outweighs the quantity that is used otherwise during the rest of year.

This is open season at IIT M and hunt for chicks has begun.

As the shares of outside Insti chicks soar like Sensex in good times, shares of the Insti gals (most are not chicks, so ‘gals’ will be more appropriate for the sake of majority) plummet as if it is dreaded Black Monday. One can easily spot the ‘see you after Saarang you ugly monkey’ look all over the faces of Insti gals. Vols, Coords and Cores flaunt their badges proudly- It is the next best way to plain shouting to tell the chicks that you are the much talked IITian. There are many events that facilitate ‘interaction’ of Insti junta with outsiders. Dance Workshop is one of them. How to select a girl for that? Insti junta has become wiser over the years and has learned the ropes of flirting. Usually they focus chicks from hep and ‘only for girls’ colleges like Mt Carmel and Stella Maris. They also don’t mind waiting for one full day and stalking the chick to check if she is with her boyfriend (who is not around at the moment) or talking excessively over the phone (to her boyfriend of course) to finally pop the question – ‘Hey, I am Bond and would you mind becoming my partner in Salsa workshop tomorrow’. Deal, and the fate, is sealed.

As the fest approaches the curtain calls, the crowd become less sparse. Chicks become as difficult to spot as a deer outside the campus. A nostalgic feel shrouds the campus and ‘the poor’ guy feels poorer after a glimmer of rich feel. The drought is back in the Insti and rooms, and the occupants, are shaggymax once again.

Water on Commodity Exchange

Water- that is considered one of the basic needs and giving a thirsty drinking water is considered an act of Punya (sacred)- is sold in bottles today and the day is not far when it will be traded on the Commodity Exchanges.

It's ironic, the places which are out of bounds are often the ones that are most trespassed. Write on a compound wall - DON'T URINATE HERE and see what happens, whole junta will piss at this sign. A statutory or otherwise warning always attracts rebelliousness.
It's kind of Murphy's Law giving practical demonstrations.
More we are becoming environmental conscious, more we are polluting. How 'Green' are the Green factories and How 'Green' are new technologies? Is Bio Diesel non polluting or a battery power vehicle leads to less emissions (over their life-cycles). We doubt that they are anyways lesser polluting than their other counterparts.
Here is a thought-

You may call it 'Biggest of all Shaastras', 'Baap of all Techfests', Sexiest of all Engg College Fests'... Shaastra-'o9 gave reasons enough to everyone to choose a epitome of their choice. The fest ended with a grand closing on 4th of this month with a very special 'Vishesh'. The fest harbingered a lot of changes. It once again redefined the way a tech fest is conducted. Breakthrough events like 'Symposium' and 'Aerofest' were unmatched success. Shaastra Car- a car cum bike- was an achievement by IIT M techies, which was another quantum leap in creative technological prowess display.

Despite the cash crunch and industry hell bent on not parting with its spons money, spons team has put up an excellent show and the result is Shaastra-09 is bigger, better than ever. Participanta from all India will vie for the coveted few positions during 5 day battle of brighteset of wits. Only the best of the bests will be able to claim the scalps at the end of the day.

Many new events have been added this year, like- Shaastra car:A car to be built by students completely from scratch; Shaastra Symposium: A unique initiative from Shaastra and IIT madras to help spread awareness about sustainability.

The Zeal of EP team was not shaken by even swine flu scare and they were raring to go into Pune's territory (however couldn't go- thanks to last minute directives), the cartoon explores the other side- what if they dared to go there and featured in a prominent daily about their courageous act of entering Pune's Territory amidst such a situation; for sure they would have done real good EP work :D

This is the first strip I made. It was way back in first year when one of my friend suggested this idea of coming with a cartoon strip. At that time I was unaware of any other strip untill the same friend told about 'Arbit Choudhury' from some guys of NITIE. I was impressed by their work, but at the same time found their art-work of not so good quality. I thought myself- 'We can also give a shot, and perhaps can come up with something better'. Within two days I decided upon the character and made the maiden strip. It was circulated without dialogues in the class and garnered good response. But we made a fundamental mistake there. We were a motley group of some ten friends and I assigned all of them to come up with ideas and I decided to convert them into cartoons. Thus born- Hoodda. Why name Hoodda? Actually it is after one of best friends who was very funny, mischievous, and what not. I was and am very influenced by his style, his one liners and his unbeatable 'Haajirjawabi' But, as they say- Everybody's responsibility is nobody's responsibility. The strip didn't budge beyond its first edition. During my internship I revisted the idea and decided to prune the team and zeroed down to only one person- Chetan, one of my class mate and good friend at DoMS. And despite our hectic schedule at internship (:D), we decided to go ahead with ideation and putting ideas on paper. within two months we made almost ten strips, some good some not so good, which will be published on this page on regular intervals. This maiden strip is the original diologuless strip which was made one year back. I think the strip is self explanatory, or atleast I was told so when I showed it to junta.
